Honeywell Position Sensing Solutions

Linear Position Sensors, Angular Position Sensors, and Other Sensing Solutions.

Honeywell has a non-contact position sensing solution for you. We offer a family of low-cost position sensorsincluding linear position sensors, angular position sensors, and rotary position sensors that are highly accurate, reliable, and offer exceptional longevity. Our high-resolution sensor modules demonstrate the position sensing concept and assists users in easily implementing their own solution.

Our position sensor products are capable of measuring the angle direction of a magnetic field from a magnet with <0.07° resolution. The advantages of measuring field direction versus field strength include: insensitivity to the temperature coefficient of the magnet, less sensitivity to shock and vibration, and the ability to withstand large variations in the gap between the sensor and magnet. These sensors may be operated below 3 volts with a bandwidth response of 0-5 MHz. Output is a typical Wheatstone bridge permitting balanced output signals for noise immunity.

Position Sensor Applications
Magnetic position sensing using Anisotropic Magneto-Resistive (AMR) sensors is a popular method of implementing a non-contact location of motional objects. By affixing a magnet or sensor element to an angular or linear moving object with its complementary sensor or magnet stationary, the relative direction of the resulting magnetic field can be quantified electronically. By utilizing multiple sensors or magnets, the capability of extended range angular or linear position measurements can be achieved. This is beneficial in applications for linear position or linear displacement, LVDT replacements, proximity detection, valve positioning, shaft travel, automotive steering, robotics, brake and throttle position systems for industries such as Automotive, Aviation and Industrial Process Control.

Honeywell Position Sensor Products

Honeywell offers the HMC1501 and HMC1512 magneto-resistive sensors. These sensors feature one or two wheatstone bridge elements to convert magnetic field direction across the silicon die into a voltage output. The HMC sensors provide better performance than traditional Hall Effect devices for increased accuracy, resolution, and field intensity variation. Additional benefits include high sensitivity so that low-cost conventional magnets like AlNiCo and ceramic can be used, and insensitivity to shock and vibration
